Earlier this week, Jennifer and I returned home from another visit to Dallas (my fourth visit to Texas Neurology related to the HEALEY ALS Platform Trial), and a week in Orlando visiting with my family and a few circles of friends.

This trip to Dallas was the first of several clinic visits to ensure I’m following proper protocols for the trial, including making sure my daily shots are being self-administered correctly and whether I’m experiencing any side effects. Thumbs up from the doctor on my ability to self-inject!

Just hours after my appointment, we hopped on a plane for Orlando to visit with my kids and my two grandsons. Our visit included taking my grandson Caden, now eight, to his first Maker Faire – which he loved! Caden screen-printed his own tee-shirt and met his favorite Star Wars characters.

Spending time with my three kids and two grandsons was extra special, as always, but our week was topped off by a special event hosted by fellow Antilles High School friends: Pirates One Step Closer – Team Jose. Thank you, Anthony Claudio, Ana Neris, Chery Pugh, and Ily Fajardo Bengoa, for organizing and hosting the event.

It was also lovely to see many fellow Pirates in Team Jose tee-shirts coming together to support my journey from around the mainland!

My heart and spirits were lifted by the love, support, and aloha given to my family and me all week.
What an amazing trip. Clearly filled with love from many many family and friends… and pretty epic pirate shirts. Much aloha to you both.
Thank you for the beautiful updates. Grateful for the positive news from doctors. Please let us know if there’s anything we can do that’s helpful.
Jose & Jennifer,
Thank you for sharing these wonderful pictures of family and friends in Florida.
Most importantly, thank you for sharing this journey of great courage in your life,
so inspirational. My prayers are with you and your doctors.
Blessings, Jean McIntosh
All the comments above say it well but just want to add how special you are Jose – all those Pirates and their Pirate love are just a mirror of who you are! Such an inspiration! Vika on Maui
