Last week, I accompanied José to his wheelchair evaluation appointment in Pearl City. While he is still able to navigate with his current trio of cane, rollator (wheeled walker), and mobility scooter, a power wheelchair is in his future.
Since it can take weeks to months to move from a prescription to an evaluation, to insurance approval, to custom components/parts order, to delivery, we were advised to begin the process early.
Thanks to guidance from Cindy Hatori at our local chapter of the ALS Association, we received a referral to National Seating and Mobility where we were met by Sandy and Tammy who conducted the physical assessment and then spent a fair amount of time with Frank who enabled José to test a few different power wheelchair options.

Frank really knows his stuff and we left feeling much more confident in next steps and that José will end up with a piece of equipment well-suited to his specific (and growing) needs.

I’m so glad you’re taking care of needs ahead of time; good strategy!
So sad to see, but it’s also a sign that you folks are determined to cope!
Does it come with a horn?! Love y’all’s commitment and enthusiasm! An inspiration. Love 💗 you so much! Thank you, Jen for all your devotion!
So glad you will have the best of the best!
