This week we’ve activated a new tool that we’re excited to share with everyone. Many of you have offered support with driving to appointments, running errands, and other activities which we have yet to take you up on… but that’s about to change!
Through the ianacare (I Am Not Alone Care) app, we have started to identify opportunities to enlist your help.
José is still able to walk short distances—slowly, and with the assistance of a walker or rollator—but has made the decision to give up driving. To give him more independence (and not be solely reliant on me) in scheduling transportation for medical visits and other appointments, we’ve added a couple of upcoming events to the app.

Why not use a ride-sharing app?
While Uber and Lyft are both available in Honolulu, we need to provide more precision on pick-up and drop-off points, and ensure that folks helping with driving are able to do things like lift and stow José’s collapsible walker into their vehicle, assist him in and out of the vehicle safely and confidently, and in some cases accompany him to his appointments.
What if driving isn’t something I can help with?
Even if driving isn’t something you can help with, you’re still encouraged to join our support squad in the ianacare app! Once you join, you’ll be able to share messages of support with José and—in the future—we plan to activate other features in the app including: scheduling in-person or virtual social visits with José, respite breaks for Jen, meal support, errands, and even coordinating fun outings for José (e.g., meals with friends, trips to the museum, beach visits, etc.) that can be challenging for us to orchestrate on our own.
How to join the support squad
If you’d like to join our Team on the ianacare app, let us know via the Contact Page on this website. When you reach out, be sure to include either an email address or phone number which we’ll need to send you an invite to join the app team.
p.s., if you know someone else who could benefit from setting up their own support team in the ianacare app, be sure to tell them about it!
Hi, ny name is Alice Tucker, and I’m a looooooong-time HPR listener/contributor/fan/whatevah.
I drive and can drive Jose wherever. I do,however, have a life, so can I sign up for specific days of the week/times of day/areas of Oahu, etc., that are good for me?
Aloha! I’m a Jose fan since I was selected to be on the community advisory board. But I live on Maui. If you can think of any way I can support Jose and family, please email me. Sending love and prayers, Vika FittsMilgrim
