This latest update has been four months in the making.
In early April, we had an in-home assessment to gauge the possibility of installing a ceiling lift system. The hope was that a ceiling lift could simplify transfers and make them safer.

It turned out that the construction of our home limits the extent that we could employ tracks between rooms, so we settled on a single fixed track in our living room with the goal of being able to transfer José from his recliner to various wheelchairs (power wheelchair, commode chair, shower chair).

Then in May, with an estimate in-hand, we set a new stretch goal for our 2021 GoFundMe campaign to cover the cost of the equipment and installation–approximately $17,000–which was raised in record time. Go #TeamJosé!

Then the project stalled for several weeks while we worked to track down structural information for our apartment building. We picked up momentum when a scan of the ceiling slabs was confirmed for early July to identify the location of rebar and conduits.

And this week? This week the equipment arrived in Honolulu and was installed!

The final step is for us to be trained on how to use the ceiling lift and that has been scheduled for Aug. 15. We’ll be sure to let you know how that goes!

💝 In the meantime, huge thanks from both of us for getting us this far. xoxo
