It’s been about five weeks since José’s last update, and he is just about eight weeks away from his last work day; 58 days to be precise.
Here’s a little teaser to tide you over until José’s next post!
- We paused supportive care with Navian during May but officially (re)enrolled for June and July since we have access to two more months of care on Jose’s current health plan.
- José gave us quite a scare with a near hospitalization in mid-May stemming from another bronchial infection.
- We found out today that he will undergo screening for possible enrollment in an Early Access Program (EAP) for a promising drug currently in clinical trial.
- We’re working on new routines to help me rebuild my business as I prepare to become the sole breadwinner while caring for José and coordinating his care team.
José will share more details on all of this—and everything else he’s been up to!—soon.
I didn’t know that Navian had a “cutoff” date as to cessation of services. That seems a bit harsh, considering the nature of the services to which the organization is dedicated. Is there any way that your frienda can intervene in your behalf to see that Navian’s services might be extended?
hi Alice! the cut-off is for supportive care (a.k.a. palliative care) covered by Jose’s current health insurance plan from work. If/when he chooses to go on hospice care there won’t be a time limit – but we’re not there yet! In the meantime, we’ll be navigating the process of transitioning to his SSDI benefits and medicare and aren’t yet certain exactly how that will all look until we get further along in our planning and closer to the transition
