Last week, Damian from Thrive for Life was able to remove the ceiling lift from our apartment and it will be gifted to someone living in Ewa Beach.
Many of you will remember (and contributed to) the crowdfunding campaign that helped us purchase and install the ceiling lift during the summer of 2023 when José was barely able to stand and transfers were becoming incredibly taxing and dangerous–for both of us.
If you have any doubt of the fact that Honolulu is really a big small town, the day it was removed I received this text from someone who had been on José’s care team:

For over two years this equipment was a critical part of our daily lives and eased the challenge of transferring José from his recliner, then hospital bed, to his shower chair and powerwheelchair. And if we’re keeping it real, it was also a godsend prior to his emergency surgery and colostomy placement in Dec. 2023.
I’m incredibly grateful to be able to pay it forward to someone else who can use it and share this update with all of you!

Thank you for sharing this, Jen. What wonderful news that someone on island is now benefiting from this critical piece of equipment.
Jen…thanks for sharing news. BLESSINGS!
