A quick note to share a recently announced programming note from Hawai‘i Public Radio:
In the coming days, you will hear tributes to José A. Fajardo, the beloved and recently departed former President of Hawai‘i Public Radio. Ray Cruz, who hosted Latin Beat for 30 years on HPR, returns to the air for a two-hour special on HPR-1, Friday, Jan. 31, 8pm-10pm. The following evening, Feb. 1, HPR-1 presents an encore of Bridging the Gap that featured José (aka DJ El Presidenté) as guest host alongside Hawai‘i Kulāiwi host DJ Mermaid (aka Paige Okamura), 6pm-8pm. These are tributes, but they are not somber, as both programs will feature the eclectic and often upbeat music that José loved. Dance your heart out—itʻs what José would have wanted!
